🚀 The Book in 3 Sentences

  1. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People lists out 7 habits (Principles) that all people should be striving for to be living an effective and good life.

  2. The book details how developing these 7 habits will allow you to become an independent person who is not easily swayed by the people around them, but has a strong inner core to rely on.

  3. The book states how combining all these habits can create synergy, and getting synergy is the ultimate goal because it will allow you to live in a healthy, win-win environment.

🎨 Impressions

I thought the book was very helpful. I especially found it very helpful during the part about planning out your week instead of planning each individual day, and the importance of doing "Quadrant 2" activities. These activities are highly important but not urgent, so most people don't do them. But by planning out your week based on the principles you want to live by, you can focus your time and efforts on doing these Quadrant 2 activities.

I think the book details really well the power you get when you invest in people. Choosing not to see them as time outputs, but as people. You also need to Seek first to Understand before to be understood. This tip can help so many of the relationships I'm in, and I've read this before in other books, but it was good to hear his impression of it.

I thought the end got a little wordy, and just a bit redundant, but overall good.

How I Discovered It

My brother told me about the book back when I was in High School, so I would say 2013.

Who Should Read It?

Anyone who is looking to improve their life, be more productive, or needs something to kick start their life to full gear.

☘️ How the Book Changed Me

💡 How my life / behaviour / thoughts / ideas have changed as a result of reading the book.

  • I definitely think this book has given me a much better insight on the importance of investing your time into people, and really listening to them. I think it showed me the importance of seeking win-win solutions in our lives rather than caving into lose-win or using our dominance in win-lose situations. It's given me more clarity on how to go about planning and the importance of doing and maintaining a schedule for the Quadrant 2 activities.

  • This book has changed my idea on the notion that we shouldn't read a ton of self-help books. This book has made me see that reading more of these books, or books that interest you will help you learn, and gain better perspectives in your life. Reading is also part of the quadrant 2 activity, so it's something that we're not doing all the time, but very important to be an effective person.

✍️ My Top 3 Quotes

  • "Paradigms (how we see the world) are powerful because they create the lens through which we see the world. The Power of a paradigm shift is the essential power of quantum change, whether that shift is an instantaneous or a slow and a deliberate process."

  • "Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least."

  • "The way you spend your time is a result of the way you see your time and the way you really see your priorities."
